Racicot is a writer, filmmaker and producer and has found time to make about 20 films in the past 20 years - none of which could be accomplished without the co-operation and patience of various individuals and editors over the years.

Racicot is a geologist by day (over 45 years’ experience) and making films is his passion and hobby. It is no coincident that many of his films center on geology, prospecting and the outdoors.

Racicot is a two-time winner of Sudbury’s Cinefests’ Community Pulse Award. 

  1. 2002  a short 6-minute film entitled: Things to do in Northern Ontario.

  2. 2004 a 10-minute film entitled: Fortune Cookie Chronicles.

The topic of his film projects often revolves around geology or the outdoors. Other titles include:  The Poets Picnic, a documentary of two poets from Massey, Charlie Smith and 80-year-old George Beith. Arrow to Augers- Canoes to Choppers: a short documentary about three young native Cree men looking for gold in Northern Quebec.

One of Racicot’s favorite films is One More Hole. This film was directed with no cameraman, no soundman, no script, no money, no director and no actors. Racicot successfully engaged other geologists and drillers to assist him in this project.

-Wrote and finished a short script entitled: “The Cleanup”

-Finished the first draft of a script about a struggling Ontario prospector who meets two Quebec lads dealing with their own problems as they attempt to drive cross Canada until their van breaks down and their wallet gets stolen. Having a fleur de lis painted on their van doesn’t help.

-Wrote and published an article about Prospecting in an established Mining Journal

-2001 ``Canadian Bush Stories``: 30-minute documentary that depicts numerous stories by geologists in the bush

-2002 ``Things to Do in Northern Ontario``: 10 minutes that shows all the outdoor activities a person can do in Northern Ontario. 

-2004 ``Fortune Cookie Chronicles``: 10-minute film about a prospector who follows his heart instead of his head and finds true love.

-2005 ``One More Hole``: 10-minute film about a geologist who devises an unusual plan to drill a hole in order to find an elusive gold deposit.

-2005 ``The Poets Picnic``: 10-minute film about the friendship and poetry of two poets who live in Northern Ontario

-2007 ``Arrows to Auger- Canoes to Chopper: 10-minute documentary about native Cree’s prospecting for gold in Northern Quebec.

-2009 ``Muffler Mutiny``: 4-minute experimental video using Michael Jackson music ``Beat It`` while two dancers dance the Cha Cha

-2009 ``Piece of Cake``: 10-minute movie about a group of prospectors who have to hike through the bush- including wading a 4-foot creek to get a job done.

-2014 to 2016 “Canadian Bush Stories’’: interviewed various geologists and prospectors and attempted to have produced as a series.

-2018 “Canadian Tumbleweed”: A short, rare film deemed on of the “Most Amazing Natural Films” in Canada in the past 5 years (according to F. Racicot)

Training: Racicot is self-taught but has taken various courses on screen writing, film production, directing and writing organized by MFM (Music and Film) in Sudbury and well as Manitoulin Film Institute- Weengushk -with Greta Cheecho;
