The founder of Playboy magazine had an enormous impact on the society I grew up in. Some will point to him as contributing to the great moral decline that began in the 1960s. I have mixed feelings on the subject and, typical for me, I see many shades of gray rather than black or white.
The barber shop in Truro, Nova Scotia where I got my hair cut as a teenager in the 1960s always had Playboy magazines openly scattered around. This was a conservative area but I do not remember any controversy at all. It was my first exposure to pornography.
