Kobe Bryant
August 23, 1978 – January 26, 2020
As a fan of the NBA, I watched Kobe Bryant play basketball many times throughout his career.
It was the suddenness of his tragic helicopter accident that had a significant emotional impact on me. It was the death of his 13 year old daughter Gianna and the others who were family friends. Fame and money does not guarantee a good, long life.
George Perry Floyd Jr.
October 14, 1973 – May 25, 2020
The death of George Floyd impacted me because of how it dominated the news for a long time. I followed the protests in the aftermath of his murder. I followed the trial, conviction and sentencing of Derek Chauvin.
The death of George Floyd will leave a legacy greater than other similar deaths. "I Can't Breathe", "Say Their Names", and "Black Lives Matter" are phrases now etched into our minds. It seems to me that the racial divide in the USA continues to widen.
Ruth Bader Ginsburg
March 15, 1933 – September 18, 2020
It was quite interesting watching a Supreme Court judge become an icon in popular culture. I respected, admired and liked her. I was particularly impressed by her friendship with her very conservative colleague, Antonin Scalia.
Together with Pat, I watched and enjoyed the CNN Film RGB.
