I began thinking about my birthday a couple of months ago. Every year I want to do something special to celebrate my life. If I am lucky, this tradition will continue for thirty more years.
After drinking my coffee at the start of the day, I began reading. But I did not go online as I usually do. As planned, I began reading My Diary and summarized January, 1967.
And also as planned, I posted my essay About Communitas on the Emergent Commons site on Mighty Networks. I wondered what the response would be. In my mind I told myself to not be attached to an expectation of a significant, positive response.
The day did not unfold exactly as planned. Today, of all days, my printer ran out of ink and it was a messy job to fill it up. Next my scanner would not connect to our wifi network. Of course not, I remembered, because we have a new modem from Telmex since they recently installed fiber optic cable. But for some unknown reason, I was not able to connect to the new network. So I connected it with an ethernet cable. But it would still not function. Frustrating! Irritating! But I was determined not to be triggered as can sometimes happen in these circumstances.
I also traded some text messages with Nikki who is now back home after travels to Toronto and BC and Alberta.
We received an email from Linda Goodsir, something we always appreciate. But this email had some unexpected but not totally surprising bad news. I will not share any more at this time in order to protect the privacy of the individual involved.
Next Pat and I went for coffee to RJGluten Free Ajijic y Café Xicuintla de Veracruz, or Ross’s Place as I like to call it. But no cappuccino today because of electricity problems. Ross did not look happy. Pat and I enjoyed a cupcake and a cookie, bought some lamb sausage and went home for coffee.
For weeks I had been keeping notes for My Bucket List.
And I had Pat take some photos of me, something that hopefully will also become a birthday tradition.
And I read what I wrote on August 7, 2020.
I checked in again at Emergent Commons. Four people had cheered my article and a couple of them made appreciative comments. I am hopeful that this will lead to an Event.
Pat and I went out for dinner to Go Bistro, one of my favorite restaurants in Lakeside. It was very good and we enjoyed ourselves. And we wondered about when we would go out again as we are expecting renewed pandemic restrictions on Monday from Alfaro, Governor of the State of Jalisco.
As soon as we got home I began watching the Olympic Men's Marathon. I love to run and I love watching people run. I am in awe of elite runners who can run 42 kilometers at a pace almost twice as fast as mine for 5K. I also watched the Women's 10k and the 4 x 400 relays.
My birthday was a good day. I wonder what ideas will emerge for celebrating my 71st. Time will tell.
